The Voter Registration Appeals Board exists to hear appeals from individuals whose voter registration has been rejected or canceled by the Town Clerk. Appeals must be filed in writing within 30 days of receiving notice of the decision.
In accordance with Maine law (Title 21-A §103), the board is composed of three members:
One member nominated by each of the two major political parties and appointed by the Select Board.
One member nominated by the Town Clerk and also appointed by the Select Board. This person serves as the Chair.
Alternate members are also nominated by each party in case a regular member cannot serve.

Appeal Process
If you submit an appeal, the Chair will schedule a hearing promptly. You will receive at least 20 days’ written notice and will have the opportunity to present testimony and evidence. The board can affirm, modify, or reverse the Clerk’s decision. You will receive the board’s decision in writing, along with information on how to appeal further if needed.
Board actions require a majority vote.
