Multi-Use Beach Parking Permits

The Multi-Use Beach Parking Permit is required for parking in Town of Wells metered beach lots from the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through the Monday of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The permit also provides year-round access to the Wells Transfer Station.

Permit Types and Fees

Resident Multi-Use Permit Taxpayer Multi-Use Permit                          
Allows access to all Town of Wells pay-and-display parking lots and the Transfer Station.                                                                           
FEE: $50

Requirements:
•Property taxes must be current
•Real estate tax bill must be in the resident’s name
•Year-round renters who claim Wells as their legal residence must show vehicle registration with excise tax paid to Wells.        
Allows access to all Town of Wells pay-and-display parking lots and the Transfer Station.                                                                          
FEE: $50

•Real estate tax bill must be in the property owner’s name

Permit Limits

A resident or taxpayer may purchase up to TWO PERMITS per tax parcel.

Sticker must be affixed to the inside of the driver's side windshield no more than four inches from the bottom of the windshield.


Veteran Discount

The Multi-Use Beach Parking Permit is available to eligible veterans. 

FEE: $45

  • The veteran must be listed on the vehicle registration and must provide proof of veteran status at the time of purchase.
  • Veteran permits may be purchased in person, online, or by mail using the same purchase options as standard permits.

Mooring Holder Permits

Mooring holders with boats located on the eastern side of the harbor who wish to park without using lot meters must purchase a Mooring Holder Permit.

FEE: $50
Limit: One permit per Mooring Holder Agreement

This permit allows parking in the Eastern Shore Lot in any available space. There are TEN designated spaces for Mooring Holder Permits. Permits are available for purchase in person, online and by-mail.

Before starting, have the following information ready:

  1. Parcel ID number exactly as shown on your tax bill
  2. Last name as shown on the tax bill
  3. Vehicle registration for the vehicle receiving the permit
  4. Registered owner information and relationship to driver
  5. Credit card for payment ($50 per permit)

Please Note:

  • If you are a new owner and have not yet received a tax bill in your name, contact the Assessor’s Office at (207) 646-6081. 
  • Permits are not transferable and must be affixed to the inside of the driver’s side windshield within four inches of the bottom edge.

By-Mail Purchase Instructions

To request a permit by mail:

  1. Provide your parcel ID number exactly as shown on your tax bill.
  2. Include a copy of the vehicle registration for each permit requested.
  3. Provide a current phone number and email address.
  4. Indicate the type of permit requested (Multi-Use or Transfer Station only).
  5. Enclose a check payable to “Town of Wells.”
    1. Multi-Use Permit: $50 each
    2. Standalone Transfer Station Permit: $5 each
  6. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of sticker(s).

Eligibility and Proof of Residency

Permits may be issued to individuals who can verify taxpayer status.

Acceptable proof may include: property tax records, vehicle excise tax records, or deed or ownership documentation when multiple owners exist. 

Timeshare Owners

Each timeshare owner may purchase a weekly beach parking permit for $50 per vehicle for each week of occupancy.


Metered Parking Information (Non-Permit Holders)

Hourly Rate: $5 per hour
Season: Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day
Payment: Payment is required at on site parking meters or through the ParkMobile app.

Hours of Operation:
8:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily
All beach lots close at 11:00 PM
